Now, MIT researchers have invented a 3D printing method using glass as a printing material, a process known as G3DP. G3DP is described as a method using optically clear glass for highly accurate 3D printing. This process is controllable and provides print options such as transparency and color. The thickness of the printed object can also be controlled. In addition, parameters such as transmission, reflection and refraction of the printed object can be controlled.

The products created by this glass 3D printer are of course beautiful; they look like the hand-blown glass works of the artist. This process can also be used to improve fiber design and simplify fiber construction on the building. Basically, optical dimensions can be integrated into the glass walls of a building.

MIT did not provide too much work details for this glass 3D printer. A similar product development group, Micron3DP, said the process uses print heads with temperatures up to 1640 degrees Celsius.
